Week 4- February 2nd- 7th

This week, Bedford Express has been busy CADing, learning and moving forward in our season

CAD

Our team does a process called design review. After a subsystem is most of the way done and almost ready to start machining our team gets together and goes over what that subsystem is going to do. This is an opportunity for our team to ask questions and find potential errors before we machine the parts. This week we were able to complete a design review for our intake and hopper.

This is what our design reviews look like.

Build

Build is starting to pick up this week, and we have started machining a few parts of our robot. A few of our build members took a trip over to the high school to start machining our shooter fly wheel. We are hoping to begin cutting parts of the intake and hopper this week. We were able to complete the frame rails.

This is a prototype we cut our on our router.

Strategy

We have got a lot done this week with strategy. With our app being finalized we have been able to begin testing our data transfer. We use a method called dummy data which is where we test our app by inputting data we might see at our first competitions. We split strategy into three different data types, pit scouting, quantitative data, and qualitative data. Pit scouting happens before matches begin, we go around the pit and ask teams questions about their robot we only can get from talking to them. Qualitative scouting is descriptive data that we find during matches. We have a few people sit in the stands, watch robots, and track the data. Quantitative data is data we get through the app. We have 6 scouters that watch and record how the robots perform during their matches. We have been working on finding ways to transfer and have all this data in excel so it is easily accessible when we need it.

Impact/Media

Every year our impact team nominates one of our hardworking mentors for the Woodie Flowers Award. The Woodie Flowers award is an award to honor a mentor that makes a lasting impact on our team. This week we were able to get that nomination done and submitted. We also completed our impact video, the impact video is an optional submission for the FIRST Impact Award, which is the most prestigious award in FIRST. Our impact video will be revealed at our unveil on February 28th.
